Reading: a mind travel.

Reading is, for me, an essential activity.

It's an enriching hobby that we can enjoy from a very early age.

It's a time for ourselves and a possibility to imagine other types of living.

It's something magic that everyone has to enjoy.

Personally, my reading habits have changed over the years. When I was a child, I spent a lot of time reading. I liked going to the library, changing books with my friends, going to the bookshop and buying the last book from my favourite books collection... Now, as adult, I have less free time for my hobbies but I always try to find time for reading even if it is five minutes at night.

Regarding my reading interests, I prefer reading funny novels with crazy and love adventures, but I also like historical novels. I usually read in Spanish because it is easier for me and if I am tired and I want to relax, I don't take foreign language books because it means an extra effort since I have to be more concentrate; but I sometimes read English or French books too, in order to practise these languages. Besides, I like reading magazines or newspapers in both languages because it helps me to improve my knowledge of them.

On the other hand, considering the way in which we read, it seems clear that it has changed. Audio-books and e-books use is widespread; everyone has one including me, but I prefer, without a doubt, paper books.

For finishing my post, I've taken this photo because it shows a group of students reading the same book. Probably, it is the typical books collection that teachers select at the beginning of the school year. Then, each group has one collection and everyone in the class has to read the same book. In my opinion, we might change this way of practising reading in class. I consider that it isn't a great form to promote reading habits in children because it's difficult that all of them find the same book pleasant.

From my point of view, an adult enjoy the things he or she learnt happily as a child. So if we, as teachers, impose children to read some books they don't like, it could be the reason due to adults don't see reading as a hobby but as a boring activity.

  1. Hi Olga, I am agree with you. Unfortunately, we sometimes have no enough time for reading for pleasure, however, I'm trying since a couples of years ago to spend my free time reading instead of wasting my time with another activity.

About the pic you chose, as you said, it is very often children all read the dame at the same time and, as I know as a teacher, not all of them as equal or the same. However, I sometimes use this strategy because I can start a discussion about a topic.
