Let's know Project with Genially

Hello!!

Today I want to share with you a small project I have done with my 6th grade students. The main objective of this project was learning to use Genially, apart from work in English.

Genially is a web for creating dynamic presentations which gives us countless options and possibilities for doing these presentations as original and striking as possible.

Well, I organise the lessons in this way:

1st lesson: I explained the project, I said the topic (English speaking countries that are not too famous, for example Jamaica), and I made the groups. Then, I explained how genially works and they created their accounts (one account per group).

2nd lesson: I gave the index of the project to them, in order they knew the basic information they had to include. However, they could include more points if they want. After that, they started to work. They chosen the country and then, they searched all the information required and wrote it on your notebooks.

3rd lesson: once they had all the information, they did a mindmap on your notebooks in order to organize the ideas before to start working with genially. Then, we checked that and correct the grammar mistakes.

4th and 5th lessons: they elaborated their presentations using genially and practised their exposition. I tried to correct some pronunciation mistakes because they had to practised that at home.

6th and 7th lessons: they presented their projects to the rest of the class.

I am very happy with the results for two basic reasons: the first one is because students have been quite involved, they have shown interest and their projects are really well. The second one is because students have been concentrated during their classmates presentations. I think this wouldn't be possible but the technique of bringing them a rubric to evaluate their mates has given result.

Certainly, the project has lasted 7 lessons which could be long, but I believe that has been worth it, as students has learnt a lot with it. They have learnt not only English grammar, vocabulary or pronunciation but important aspects of other countries and how to use online tools like genially.

For all of that, I recommend to use this type of digital aids and also to elaborate projects that promote student cooperation and improve their self-steem as they are proud of their final results.

Here you have one of my students' project and the template I gave them to previously organise their ideas.

I hope you like it!

  1. Hello Olga!
I really enjoyed your blog, especially this post. It has been very useful and visual, the way you explain the timing of the sessions really helped me see the way some issues I found with my organisation could have been solved. I will keep them in mind for the next time I plan to use Genially!
I also find the colours and pictures you use for your blog quite soothing. It’s easy to get lost using bright colours and patterns when creating a new blog but yours is very comfortable to read!
If I had to improve something, your profile page could use a little information about you, so we get to know the person behind the blog! But overall, I think it’s a fantastic page and your writing is sure to help more teachers! Congratulations!
