Small countries around the world (Genially tool)

Imagen
Hi!!  I was reading some partners' blogs and I like the template that Julia has used for her Genially activity. The information here is very interesting. As my students loved this activity, I have decided to do it again, using the template from Julia’s activity. But now, I have changed the objective of the task. In this case, they have to investigate about one of the smallest countries of the world they like. The steps of the task are: 1.       They decide the country. I try to check that every group has a different country. (The groups are the same we used the last time) 2.       They search the necessary information to complete the template. They also have to look for images in order to include them in their Genially. 3.       Once, they have filled out the template (each child has its own template), they start elaborating the Genially. 4.       After finishing the Genially,...

Let's know Project with Genially

Imagen
Hello!!  Today I want to share with you a small project I have done with my 6th grade students. The main objective of this project was learning to use Genially, apart from work in English.  Genially is a web for creating dynamic presentations which gives us countless options and possibilities for doing these presentations as original and striking as possible.  Well, I organise the lessons in this way:  1st lesson: I explained the project, I said the topic (English speaking countries that are not too famous, for example Jamaica), and I made the groups. Then, I explained how genially works and they created their accounts (one account per group). 2nd lesson: I gave the index of the project to them, in order they knew the basic information they had to include. However, they could include more points if they want. After that, they started to work. They chosen the country and then, they searched all the information required and wrote it on your notebooks. 3rd lesson...

Hello everyone! Today I want to tell you my experience using storyjumper.  Storyjumper is a 2.0 web in which you can elaborate books. It has been, for me, a great discovery.  I have used this web with my 3rd grade classroom. As they have a low level of English, I decided to work all together, so the book has been the result of the ideas and creativity of the whole classroom. I organized four lesson to elaborated the book in the following way:  1st lesson: I explained the task and shown them the webpage and how it works. Moreover, we selected a theme for the book, the characters and the backgrounds.  2nd lesson: we did a brainstorming. I wrote on the board the different ideas students told me and after that we choosen the ones we like most democratically.  3rd lesson: we started to write the story using storyjumper. I wrote the story and put the scenes and characteres (following the ideas we have selected in the previous lessons) while they were watching t...

STOP BULLYING

Imagen
Hello!!  Yesterday (2nd May) was the international day against bullying. I think it is a fundamental issue and we, as teachers, should work on that with our students. They need to understand the importance of that topic, they need to know the consequences and of course, they need to know how they can facing a situation like that.  For that reason, I have prepared a lesson about bullying. I have tried to carry out a flipped lesson so, I have organised it in the following way:  - Firstly, I searched for a video on youtube and selected that I will include at the end of this post. I like this video because it is in English and the most important words appear in the written form. So, it is easier for students to follow it.  -Secondly, I have edited the video using Edpuzzle, in order to become it shorter and make easier for my students to understand the general message. Moreover, I have introduced some questions throughout the video, in that way, the children are a ...

Discovering TimeToast

Hello everyone!!  Today I want to tell you my experience using TimeToast.  TimeToast is a tool to create online time lines. I think it is a great way to work some topics with students because using time lines children learn in a more visual and organized form. So, it is easy for them to retain and internalise new ideas.  As the last Friday was the Book Day, I use this app to work on different topics related to that. I am going to explain how I organize this Friday lesson: Firstly, I told the students what day was and why we celebrate that. Then, I showed the webpage (TimeToast) and explained the fucntioning to them. After, that I made groups of three or four and gave to them a piece of paper with different information. For example, some of them had important authors information and other had information about significant books.  What they had to do was reading the information, underlining the key ideas or words and searching for the words they didn't understan...

Reading: a mind travel.

Imagen
Reading is, for me, an essential activity.  It's an enriching hobby that we can enjoy from a very early age.  It's a time for ourselves and a possibility to imagine other types of living. It's something magic that everyone has to enjoy.  Personally, my reading habits have changed over the years. When I was a child, I spent a lot of time reading. I liked going to the library, changing books with my friends, going to the bookshop and buying the last book from my favourite books collection... Now, as adult, I have less free time for my hobbies but I always try to find time for reading even if it is five minutes at night. Regarding my reading interests, I prefer reading funny novels with crazy and love adventures, but I also like historical novels. I usually read in Spanish because it is easier for me and if I am tired and I want to relax, I don't take foreign language books because it means an extra effort since I have to be more concentrate; but I sometimes read English o...
